VERONA AREA SOCCER CLUB MEETING MINUTES 5X5 Tournament Wrap-up: 38 teams participated this year. The board felt that this was a worthwhile tournament which we would like to do again. We need to secure a date for next year and better communicate the maximum team roster size as many teams exceeded the recommended roster size and we ran out of trophies. The scoring format should also be changed to a 6-3-1 format. Overall, feedback was very positive. Preliminary estimates are that VASC and MAYSA will each make approximately $2,000 in profits from the jointly sponsored tournament. Administrators Report: Another fund-raising dance has been scheduled for this fall (September 8 at Wildcat Lanes) as it was successful last year. Jeff Petersen presented a budget update for the past year. Many calls are coming in for kids looking for teams to play on. Information on try-outs is being distributed. Scholarships: The board passed a motion establishing a scholarship fund with clearer guidelines for distribution of monies. The scholarship fund ceiling is set at $1000. This fund is provided ONLY for the administrative and registration costs of scholarship recipients. This fund will be evaluated semi-annually to determine monies available for spring scholarships. Uniforms: Scott will have uniform information and sizing samples available at Registration Night. The final costs will be available as well. Try-outs: are scheduled and information has been published. The board reaffirmed its policy to require ALL teams at the classic and premier levels to comply with tryout guidelines. VASC Teams should participate in the Alliance try-out process as this is the process the board has sanctioned. Teams who set tryouts outside of this process must demonstrate to the Board that the criteria for open try-outs are met. This includes Board-approved evaluators, openness of the process, and demonstration of adequate MAYSA advertising of tryout information. Failure to comply can result in the club's refusal to register teams. Paul Anjeski agreed to draft a letter to delineate this review process to high school aged teams who have approached the Club with non-Alliance tryout plans. Miscellaneous: The board briefly discussed the U9-U11 teams struggle with many kids interested in football and soccer. The club is seriously in need of permanent storage for its equipment (trailer, goals, concessions equipment, etc.) The board is looking to secure a permanent facility requiring an 8X10 foot space and hopes it can get an offer of free storage in exchange for advertising in the Newsletter. Jeff will investigate options. Open Board Positions: VASC continues its search for soccer parents to become more active as members of our board. We need representatives on our board to serve as vice-president, treasurer, and volunteer coordinator. Volunteers are also needed to help with try-outs, especially the first night. The next meeting of the VASC Board is scheduled for Monday, June 18th at 7:00PM at the Verona Public Library.
