Report:
-
Fields.
(3/25) Jeff reported that one of the two club fields has been repaired
and closed for the Spring season. Nets will be removed and club
coaches will be notified that the field should not be used. Nets
have been ordered to replace worn and torn nets on the other field.
(4/15) Jeff reported that the open field has been lined and nets
replaced, portable toilets and trash container are in place, so
all is ready for opening weekend. Board continued a discussion of
field usage and costs. After discussion, the Board authorized purchase
of two player benches.
-
Alliance/Tryout
Info. (3/25) Mary reported that a meeting is scheduled for later
that week at which she and Craig Carlson of the 56ers would present
information about tryouts and competitive teams and answer questions.
Club members have been informed of this meeting through the newsletter,
and email. There will be a follow-up meeting on May 8 at the Library
to assist in registering players for tryouts; preferably, players
will register online. Further information will be available, advertised
in local media, on our website ( and coaches/managers will be informed
via email.
-
Brenda
Schmidt will
be identifying a date for player and team registration for recreational
teams. Will likely take place later in May.
-
Level
1/Level 2. A discussion of a program that will be implemented
by the Magic Soccer Club this fall took place. The Magic program
will require players/parents to choose the level of commitment they
have for soccer and teams will be formed on that basis, utilizing
individual registration of players (rather than team registration).
The different levels will be based on commitment - not skill evaluation
- and the goal is to allow kids who are willing to commit more time
and a bit more money to play together on teams that will practice
more often and use trainers from the 56ers. It will likewise allow
kids who "just want to play soccer" to do so on teams that are commensurate
with their level of interest.
-
Jeff
distributed the Club's financial report and the detail log of transactions
to the Treasurer.
-
High
School Fields/Lighting.
The prospects for development and lighting of a field on school
grounds in the near future appear dim. The Board discussed other
options and the question of whether the Club could participate in
any development projects.
-
We anticipate
40-55 teams will participate. Concern over the number of Verona
teams was expressed. The Board members will divide up various age
groups and make calls to help fill brackets as needed. Brenda Schmidt
will coordinate volunteers, Paul Anjeski will organize referees,
other Board members will be present on the day of the tournament
to help with tournament operations.
-
Andy
reported on efforts to secure sponsorships (monetary and in-kind)
for the tournament.
-
T-Shirts.
The Board reviewed several t-shirt designs and decided on quantity
to order, etc.
Coaching
Issues
- There was a discussion on
activities that could be coordinated by the Coaching Director. Andy
will work on trying to develop lists of people with an interest in and
qualifications for coaching VASC teams. He will also work on keeping
track of the level of license held by Verona coaches and the receipt
of Waiver Forms. He will attempt to determine the intentions of current
U10 teams and whether they have plans to move to the Classic level.
-
Other
Issues: At
the 4/15 meeting, the Board and the MAYSA Executive Director discussed
the role of clubs' boards of directors in dealing with and mediating
the rare disputes or complaints from individual teams. Keith said
individual coaches/managers have the option of moving their teams
to a different club if they feel they cannot accept the policies
of their existing club. He said that coaches/managers need to understand
their role and it may be useful for the clubs to develop guidelines
for team management. In general he said he views any such disagreements
as internal matters and MAYSA is not interested in dealing directly
with individual team/club disputes.
