Next meeting is August 19, 7:00 pm, Verona Public Library.

Present: Mary Buckman, Jeff Petersen, Dan Nuthals, Scott Clement, Mary Mattison, Andy Slawek, Keith Tipton (guest)

Keith Tipton asked to come to the meeting to voice his concerns about the way competitive tryouts were run. He explained that players were given only one score and not evaluated in the areas of footskills, field sense, coachability and then an overall score. This made it difficult when trying to fill specific positions. Also, in the future, he would like to see an A and B classic team formed if there are enough players to field two Verona-based teams. There was discussion about how players would be divided up if there is an A and B team, how coaches are chosen for the two teams, etc. Questions related to some of these concerns will be in the VASC survey which we hope will go out at the end of fall season. Keith Tipton and Andy Slawek will put together a draft of suggested procedures and changes to help make evaluations better. This would be presented to the board and to our Alliance partners so we can work together toward a better tryout evaluation process next year.

Tryouts for U15-U18 teams: Tryout dates for U15-U18 boys were discussed. It was originally thought the tryouts could be held in November. MAYSA moved the notification date and now tryouts must be held earlier. The Alliance will hold tryouts at Badger Prairie Park (across from Reddan) on August 4th to form teams for the spring of 2003 Classic league. Mary Buckman will coordinate this process with Magic and Regent. Information about tryouts will be posted around town, and a mailing will go out to all players in the VASC last season who fall into these age groups.

Coaches for 2002-2003: One U10 and one U11 mixed team are still in need of coaches. Both teams have assistant coaches but need head coaches.

Administrators Report: Financial - VASC received the $3,600 from MAYSA for the 5v5 tournament. This will go into the Fields/Infrastructure Reserve Fund. 5 v 5 Tournament for 2003 - This will be the first weekend in May. Mary has met with MAYSA to begin planning. Camps - It was noted that there is still one more camp sponsored by VASC coming up July 29 - August 2. This is the Wisconsin Soccer Academy camp at Lincoln Fields.

State and ClassicTryouts - The debriefing meeting has not been held because too many people were on vacation. Mary asked the board to provide comments/feedback about the Alliance tryouts. She said it would be helpful if comments and suggestions for improvement were divided into the following categories: advertising, registration, tryouts, notifications, interclub relations between Alliance and the 56ers.

Fundraiser - A September date could not be found for the VASC fundraiser. The club will look at March or April instead. Jeff Petersen and Mary Buckman will be the administrators of the VASC for one more year. The year runs from September through August. After that they will be stepping down.

Next meeting is August 19, 7:00 pm, Verona Public Library.
