Verona Area Soccer Club - How Referees are Assigned

Referees self-assign to games on a website called "ArbiterSports.com.” After successfully completing the referee course, each referee is given his own account and he can see all games available to referee and assign himself to games. The Referee Assignor keeps track of games that are not covered and sends emails out each week to try to get all games covered. If a game is not covered, the team contact will be emailed so the team can decide whether to play the game as a scrimmage or reschedule. Usually all classic games are rescheduled and most recreational games are played as a scrimmage.

Coaches and managers are given access to only their teams on ArbiterSports.com. Coaches and managers have to be assigned to the correct team every season so this may take some time. If you are concerned about your game having a referee, you can contact your Referee Assignor. There are two different emails for assignors for our games. One is for classic teams and one is for recreational teams (both Alliance* In-House and MAYSA scheduled rec). Please contact only the assignor for your group. If you contact both, then the other one just forwards the email to the correct one and it creates confusion. Do not contact the state referee assignor. She has nothing to do with assigning our games at the local level.

Here is who to contact if you have questions about getting a referee for your game:

   Classic Teams: Linda Huttenhoff lhuttenhoff@maysa.org
Recreational Teams (both MAYSA Scheduled Rec and Alliance In-House): Jay Mattison alliancerefs@gmail.com

Also:
- Referees are not used in U7 and U8 games.

- Pay the referees with cash (no checks) at the beginning of the game. Referee should be given a team roster for rec and in-house teams and roster and player cards for classic games.
To find out how much to pay the ref go to http://www.maysa.org/html/referees/fees.php. The referee fees are NOT part of the VASC and MAYSA fees. These fees need to be collected each fall and spring to pay the referees.

Coach and Manager Access to ArbiterSports.com:
When you are assigned an account to access ArbiterSports.com, coaches and managers will receive a "Welcome Email" inviting you to log on to the site with instructions on how to do so. Once you are in ArbiterSports.com, click on the schedule tab and you will see your team name. On the right hand side is a column labeled "games." There is a blue number in this column. Click on it. This will bring up the schedule of remaining games for the season.

You will see a column labeled "Slots." This tells you if you have a referee for your game.
   - For classic teams you will see 0/3, 1/3, 2/3, 3/3. This means you either have no referee,
one of three slots is filled, two of three slots are filled or three of three slots are filled, respectively.
   - For recreational teams only one referee is assigned so you will either have 0/1 or 1/1.

Games are being filled throughout the season so if you do not have a referee for every game please give the assignors time to fill the games. Many referees do not sign up for games until the week of the game. If a referee cannot be found for your game, you will be notified.

Also, if you have a referee that does not show up for your game, please notify your assignor.

If you have any questions about this process, please email the administrator at admin@veronasoccer.org.
